Caldarus heart progression
Caldarus does not progress like an ordinary villager at the start. His early milestones come from the Mines storyline:
- 2 hearts: complete the Water Tablet.
- 4 hearts: complete the Earth Tablet.
- 6 hearts: complete Breaking the Fire Seal.
Breaking the Fire Seal is the turning point: Caldarus takes his later form and begins accepting normal gifts.
Choose romance at 8 hearts
At 8 hearts, Caldarus sends the letter for Life in This Form and asks you to meet him at his temple in the Deep Woods.
During the event, choose the response that explicitly describes your feelings as romantic. That sets the relationship to Dating; the friendship response leads to Best Friend instead.
How to propose at 10 hearts
- Choose the Dating route during the 8-heart event.
- Raise Caldarus to 10 hearts.
- Wait until the next morning for Elsie to deliver the Engagement Ring recipe.
- Craft the ring at the Forge.
- Use it with Caldarus to start the proposal sequence.
- Make the final proposal choice to proceed toward the wedding.
Easy loved gifts
Caldarus does not accept normal gifts until the Fire Seal is complete. Confirmed loved gifts include Apple Honey Curry, Fried Rice, Harvest Plate, Mont Blanc, Seafood Boil, Seafood Snow Pea Noodles, Spring Galette, Statuette of Caldarus, Sushi Platter, and Veggie Sub Sandwich.
A repeatable cooked dish is usually easier than waiting for the rare Statuette artifact. Avoid Dragon Parts, which appear among his disliked gifts.
Why the route is not progressing
Stuck before 6 hearts?
Continue the Tablet and Seal storyline. Early Caldarus hearts are story-gated.
Cannot give him a gift?
Complete Breaking the Fire Seal first.
No ring recipe at 10 hearts?
Confirm the relationship says Dating, then sleep and check the next morning for Elsie’s delivery.
What happens to other dating relationships?
The official 1.0 FAQ says they switch to Best Friend status after you marry one character.
